Irish Landmark Trust were delighted to visit our latest project, Goggin Cottage, Kildimo. Co. Limerick this week.
A timely visit that coincided with National Heritage Week 2023 celebrations.
The theme of National Heritage Week this year is ‘Living Heritage‘.
Living Heritage is referred to as the practices, knowledge and skills that have been passed from one generation to the next, and are still in use today. Living Heritage extends to our buildings too and the practices of building and maintaining structures such as thatching, lime plastering and dry-stone walling. These practices will be kept alive at Goggin Cottage where the next phase of restoration works began this week.
We met with Architect Kian Buckley from JCA Architects and Contractors Michael and Shane Joyce from MP Joyce building contractors and QS for the project – Mark Hennessy from Andrew P Nugent & Associates.
Thatching work is already complete so we discussed the next phase of works which will include lime-plastering, repairing the windows and doors, bringing in services such as electricity and water and the addition of underfloor heating and new ceilings.
This project is supported by the Heritage Council under the Heritage Capacity Scheme 2023.
It is also supported by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage under the Historic Structures Fund 2023.
Irish Landmark Trust are very grateful for this support.
