Goggin Cottage – Lime Work
Goggin Cottage is constructed of rubble stone bound with lime and clay mortars and is limewashed internally and externally. The interior is simple and spartan. A good deal of original fabric remains including the narrow stairs to the sleeping loft, large fireplace with crane and simple joinery such as windows and sheeted doors. Probably the most striking feature and testament to the cottage’s age is the successive layers of limewash paint. This contributes to the cottage’s ‘lived in’ feeling.
